Facilities

The Computer Science Department has about 170 Unix systems, over 200 Windows systems, and many Servers. The computers are connected via Switched Ethernet with a total bandwidth capability of 720 Gbps of total throughput, and the department is connected to the Internet through Stony Brook’s T3 connection as well as Wireless 802.11m connectivity throughout.

The Center of Visual Computing (CVC), totaling more than 4,000 square feet, includes:

  • Visualization Lab,
  • Virtual Reality Lab,
  • Modeling Lab,
  • Vision Lab,
  • Multimedia Lab

The Infrastructure consists of:

  • 66-node PC Windows/Linux cluster with a 10Gbps InfiniBand network,
  • 5-node IBM Deep Computing Visualization Cluster,
  • 20 high-end SGI computers,
  • 4 HP workstations,
  • 40 Dell workstations,
  • 1 SUN computer,
  • 55 Apple computers,
  • 80 PCs,
  • Stereo Responsive workbench,
  • 5 laser printers,
  • 1 large format (42”) printer,
  • 1 3D printer,
  • 2 Color scanners,
  • Film scanner,
  • Total of 21.5 TB primary storage with backups

The labs are connected through a Gigabit network capable of 36 Gbps of total throughput as well as 802.11abgn wireless network.
